Arran Quarter Cask The Bothy is a natural cask strength expression from Lochranza Distillery on the Isle of Arran. Initially matured for seven years in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels before spending a further two years in smaller 125 litre quarter casks, the whisky gains additional oak interaction while retaining Arran’s bright, fruit-led character. Bottled at 56.2% ABV with natural colour and without chill filtration, it combines tropical and orchard fruit with vanilla, sweet spice and a concentrated texture.

• Nose: Fresh apple, pineapple and citrus with vanilla, sweet malt and a touch of warm pastry-like richness.
• Palate: Full and concentrated, with lemon and orange, pineapple, sweet spice, cinnamon and vanilla alongside a gentle coastal edge.
• Finish: Long and warming, with honeyed sweetness, pineapple, vanilla, coconut and lingering oak spice.

The Bothy takes its character from a two-stage maturation, beginning in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels before transfer to smaller 125 litre quarter casks. The increased interaction between spirit and oak builds concentration, vanilla and spice around Arran’s naturally bright fruit profile. Presented at natural cask strength, with natural colour and no chill filtration, it offers a more powerful interpretation of the distillery’s modern house style.

About the Distillery

Lochranza Distillery opened in 1995 on the northern coast of the Isle of Arran, restoring legal whisky production to the island after a long absence. Its single malts have become known for a clean, fruit-forward character, while releases such as The Bothy demonstrate how that spirit responds to more intensive cask maturation and higher bottling strength.
