A Rare Mature Lowland Release

Distilled at Auchentoshan in May 1997 and bottled in April 2019 by Douglas Laing for the respected Old Particular series, this 21 year old Lowland single malt was matured in a single refill hogshead and bottled at natural cask strength. Released in a limited outturn of 342 bottles, it captures the elegant, spirit-driven style for which mature Auchentoshan has become increasingly appreciated among enthusiasts of older Lowland whisky.

About the Distillery

Founded in 1800 near Glasgow on the banks of the River Clyde, Auchentoshan remains one of Scotland’s most recognisable Lowland distilleries. Originally known as Duntocher before adopting the Auchentoshan name in the 19th century, the distillery has endured periods of ownership change, wartime damage, and significant industry shifts throughout its long history.

Unlike many Lowland producers that moved away from traditional methods, Auchentoshan became known for maintaining triple distillation, a process that contributes to the distillery’s lighter and more refined spirit character. Typically unpeated and spirit-forward in style, mature Auchentoshan expressions often display elegant citrus, honeyed malt, vanilla, and soft oak complexity that has earned the distillery a respected place among collectors and enthusiasts of older Lowland whisky.

About the Bottling

Douglas Laing’s Old Particular series has become widely respected for presenting single cask Scotch whisky with minimal intervention, allowing the natural character of the spirit and cask to remain fully intact. Mature Lowland releases from the range are comparatively uncommon, particularly older Auchentoshan expressions bottled at full natural strength. This refill hogshead maturation preserves the distillery’s elegant spirit profile while adding mature oak complexity developed over more than two decades of ageing.

Archive Notes

Please review all product images carefully. Minor cosmetic wear to labels, capsules, cartons, tubes, or presentation materials may be present due to age, long-term storage, or secondary-market sourcing.

Natural variation in fill level, packaging condition, and label ageing can occur in collectible releases and forms part of the character of mature independently bottled Scotch whisky.
