Bunnahabhain 1979 25 Year Old Single Cask #7405 | Lombard Jewels of Scotland
Archive Details
A Rare Mature Islay Single Cask Release
Distilled at Bunnahabhain on Islay in April 1979 and bottled in October 2004 by Lombard Scotch Whisky as part of the Jewels of Scotland range, this 25 year old single cask release represents a refined and mature example from one of Islay’s most quietly respected distilleries. Matured for over two decades in oak before bottling at 50% ABV, the whisky captures the elegant and spirit-driven character for which older Bunnahabhain releases have become increasingly admired among collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Drawn from Single Cask No.7405, only 559 bottles were produced for this limited release. Bottled without chill filtration or artificial colouring, this expression reflects the richly textured and coastal style that has established mature Bunnahabhain as one of the more understated yet highly collectible names within Islay whisky.

About the Distillery
Situated on the remote northern coast of Islay, Bunnahabhain has long been recognised for producing a distinctive style of Islay whisky with a stronger emphasis on maritime complexity and sherried depth rather than dominant peat influence. Historically regarded as one of Islay’s more understated distilleries, mature official and independent releases from earlier decades have become increasingly respected among collectors and enthusiasts.
The distillery’s coastal setting, historic pier, and traditional production style continue to contribute to the unique character that defines older Bunnahabhain bottlings.
About the Bottling
The Jewels of Scotland series from Lombard Scotch Whisky became known for showcasing mature single cask Scotch whiskies from respected distilleries across Scotland, often bottled in limited quantities with minimal intervention. Older Bunnahabhain expressions from the series have become increasingly difficult to source, particularly well-preserved examples from the distillery’s earlier production decades.
Distilled during an era before Bunnahabhain’s broader modern resurgence, this release reflects the softer, coastal, and spirit-forward style that helped establish the distillery’s reputation among enthusiasts seeking a more understated interpretation of Islay single malt whisky.
