A Rare Mature Speyside Release

Distilled at Macallan on 13 October 2008 and bottled in 2025 by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as cask 24.182, this 16 year old single malt was matured initially in ex-oloroso sherry butts before a finishing period in a first fill Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead. Titled “Upper-crust Custard”, the release captures the dense sherried richness, spice, and layered sweetness associated with modern cask-strength Macallan while maintaining the individuality and intensity for which SMWS bottlings are known.

Tasting Notes

• Nose: Rich custard, dark raisins, baked pastry, cinnamon spice, orange peel, polished oak, and dense sherried sweetness.
• Palate: Full-bodied and intensely concentrated with notes of treacle, dried fruits, crème brûlée, dark chocolate, warming spice, and PX-driven richness.
• Finish: Long, warming, and decadent with lingering oak spice, syrupy fruit sweetness, toasted nuts, and dark sherry influence.
