Thirty-Five Years of Rare Single Grain Maturation

Distilled at Strathclyde in September 1987 and bottled in May 2023, this exceptional 35 year old single grain Scotch whisky was selected by Douglas Laing for its prestigious Xtra Old Particular (XOP) collection. Matured in a single refill barrel and released at natural cask strength of 45.5%, this bottling is one of only 190 hand-filled bottles. Its remarkable age, individual cask provenance, and distinguished wooden presentation make it a compelling addition to a collection of mature Scottish grain whisky.

About the Distillery

Established in Glasgow in 1927, Strathclyde is a Lowland grain distillery whose spirit has traditionally played an important role in Scotch whisky blending. Extended maturation reveals another dimension of its character, allowing delicate grain sweetness to develop layers of oak, vanilla, and confectionery richness. Individually selected older casks offer collectors an opportunity to appreciate this often-overlooked category in its own right.

About the Bottling

Douglas Laing's Xtra Old Particular range is dedicated to exceptionally mature single cask Scotch whiskies, presented without added colouring or chill filtration. This 1987 Strathclyde was drawn from refill barrel DL17297 after 35 years of maturation, producing just 190 individually hand-filled bottles. The original engraved wooden case and accompanying presentation materials reinforce the distinctive character of this limited XOP release.
