An Iconic Speyside Double Cask Classic

The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is one of the most recognisable single malts in modern Scotch whisky. Crafted using founder David Stewart's pioneering double maturation process, the whisky spends its first years in traditional American oak whisky casks before finishing in European oak sherry casks. The result is a beautifully balanced Speyside malt combining honeyed sweetness, gentle spice and rich dried fruit complexity.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Sweet honey, vanilla, orchard fruits, toasted nuts and delicate cinnamon with subtle sherry richness.
  • Palate: Smooth and rounded with honeyed malt, dried fruits, gentle oak, nutmeg, cinnamon and creamy toffee.
  • Finish: Long, warming and elegant with lingering sweet spice, oak, vanilla and delicate sherry notes.

About the Distillery

Founded in 1892 in Dufftown, Balvenie remains one of the few Scottish distilleries to maintain traditional floor maltings, an on-site cooperage and generations of in-house craftsmanship. Under the long stewardship of David Stewart MBE, Balvenie has become internationally respected for producing elegant, honeyed Speyside whiskies that balance tradition with innovation.

About the Bottling

First introduced in 1993, DoubleWood became one of the whiskies that helped define the modern premium single malt category. Its pioneering secondary maturation in European oak sherry casks was highly influential across the Scotch industry, creating a whisky celebrated for its approachable complexity and remarkable balance. Decades later it remains one of Balvenie's flagship expressions and a benchmark for double cask maturation.
