Distilled in 1998 and matured for 21 years, this Caperdonich Peated Small Batch Release CP/001 was bottled in 2019 as part of the Secret Speyside Collection. Matured exclusively in first-fill American oak barrels and bottled at 48% ABV without chill filtration, it showcases a remarkably uncommon peated style from one of Speyside’s lost distilleries.

Caperdonich was demolished in 2011, making remaining stocks increasingly finite. While the distillery was historically known for elegant Speyside spirit, peated production was exceptionally rare, giving this release particular significance among collectors seeking unusual expressions from closed distilleries.

Tasting Notes

• Nose: Gentle peat smoke balanced by orchard fruits, honey, vanilla, sweet oak and subtle citrus notes.
• Palate: Soft and layered with warming smoke, ripe pear, caramel, vanilla cream, oak spice and delicate malt sweetness.
• Finish: Long and refined, with lingering soft peat, sweet oak, liquorice, herbs and a gentle smoky warmth.

About the Distillery

Founded in 1898 as Glen Grant No.2, Caperdonich spent much of its life producing spirit for blends before establishing its own identity. Following its closure in 2002 and eventual demolition in 2011, remaining stocks became increasingly sought-after. The Secret Speyside releases have played an important role in preserving the legacy of this forgotten distillery.
