An Historic Modern Lowland Release

Lindores Abbey MCDXCIV marks the inaugural core single malt from the modern Lindores Abbey Distillery, inspired by the first recorded distillation of Scotch whisky in 1494. Bottled at 46% ABV, it is matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon, ex-Sherry and STR wine barriques, creating a balanced Lowland whisky that honours Scotland's whisky origins while showcasing contemporary craftsmanship.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Cream tea biscuits, ripe pear, orchard fruits, honey, citrus zest, light beeswax and gentle baking spice.
  • Palate: Richer than expected for its youth, revealing creamy malt, cooked apples, white grapes, cocoa, cinnamon and balanced oak influence.
  • Finish: Medium to long with lingering orchard fruit, soft spice, gentle oak and elegant sweetness.

About the Distillery

Lindores Abbey occupies one of the most historically significant sites in Scotch whisky, recognised as the location of the first recorded distillation in 1494. After more than five centuries, distillation returned to the abbey in 2017, linking Scotland's earliest documented whisky heritage with a modern distillery dedicated to quality, long fermentation and carefully selected cask maturation.

About the Bottling

MCDXCIV—named after the year 1494 in Roman numerals—serves as Lindores Abbey's flagship single malt. Matured across Bourbon, Sherry and STR wine barriques, it introduces the distillery's elegant house style with layered fruit, gentle spice and impressive maturity despite its youthful age. As the inaugural core expression, it represents an important milestone in the revival of one of Scotland's most historic whisky sites.
